How to Turn Off Robinhood Prediction Markets

Robinhood's self-exclusion removes prediction markets from your account and moves your event-contract balance to your brokerage account. How to request it, what the sports setting does, and what each option leaves open.

Highlights

To turn off prediction markets on Robinhood, ask Robinhood support for self-exclusion. Robinhood's opt-out help page calls it an account-level opt-out from all event-contract trading. Once it takes effect, prediction markets are removed from view and from trading on your account, and Robinhood moves your event-contract balance to your brokerage account. The app's Hide sports prediction markets setting is narrower: it controls whether sports markets are shown, and Robinhood says you can still trade them. Event-contract notifications are a separate switch.

If you are deciding whether a trading app has turned into gambling for you, start with when trading becomes gambling. This guide covers the steps.

Which Robinhood option turns prediction markets off?

Self-exclusion is the one option that covers every prediction market on your account. The others hide part of the feature, quiet it, or close a whole account.

How do I self-exclude from Robinhood prediction markets?

Robinhood's opt-out page sets out the steps. You can't complete self-exclusion with the in-app switch; it goes through support.

  • Contact Robinhood support and ask for self-exclusion from event contracts.
  • Close any open event-contract positions: Robinhood needs them closed before your event-contract account can be fully disabled. Its trading guide gives the path: Investing, then Prediction markets, then Your positions; select the position and choose Close position. Its closing page says that if the market is closed or no buyer is available at your price, you hold the position until it expires.
  • Robinhood reviews the request, and a short period applies before the restriction takes effect. The page gives no exact time for either.
  • Once it applies, prediction markets disappear from view and from trading on your account. Robinhood moves your event-contract balance to your brokerage account after settlement.

To trade event contracts, Robinhood's trading guide says you need an approved Robinhood Derivatives account, and self-exclusion is Robinhood's opt-out from that trading. Robinhood calls it “a more permanent restriction” than the sports setting. Once it applies, event-contract trading can't be switched back on in the app. Keep a record of your request.

How do I hide sports prediction markets on Robinhood?

Robinhood's help page gives the path: Account (the person icon), then Menu (three bars), then Investing. Scroll to Event contracts trading, choose Event contract settings and use the Hide sports prediction markets switch.

The setting controls whether sports markets are shown to you. Robinhood says the change can take up to 24 hours, and that you can still trade sports event contracts regardless of the setting. Open positions stay open until you close them or they expire. The setting covers sports; for every category, use self-exclusion.

How do I turn off Robinhood prediction market notifications?

Robinhood's opt-out page says notifications are managed separately from trading. Open Account (the person icon), then Notifications (the bell icon), then Event contracts, and switch off the notification types you don't want.

For email, Robinhood's privacy statement says the unsubscribe link in a promotional email stops those emails, and replying STOP stops its text messages. Account statement emails keep coming; Robinhood doesn't offer an unsubscribe for them.

Can I block Robinhood prediction markets on my computer?

Robinhood's trading guide says prediction markets trade only in the Robinhood mobile app. On the web you can view them but not trade, and they are not on Robinhood Legend. Those web pages sit on robinhood.com, the same website as your investing account, so a website block cannot separate prediction markets from investing. For free and paid computer options, see how to block gambling sites on Windows.

GuardianBlock for Windows will be available soon. On an eligible Windows 11 PC, you can add robinhood.com as your own Custom Block. By default it covers the registrable domain and its subdomains, and blocking a single page inside a site is not supported. A robinhood.com block therefore blocks the whole site in Chrome, Edge and Firefox on that PC, your account pages, statements and tax documents included, so download what you need first. Adding a block needs no approval; pausing or removing it needs keyholder approval.

GuardianBlock supports Chrome, Edge and Firefox; read the browser-support boundaries. On the protected Windows account, unapproved browser software is blocked from running as an alternate route.

How do I limit the Robinhood app on my phone?

Robinhood's prediction markets trade only in its mobile app, the same app you invest in. A phone's own time limits work on an app category on an iPhone and on a single app on Android, so either one limits investing in the Robinhood app too, not prediction markets alone. That is why self-exclusion is the precise tool.

On an iPhone with iOS 27, Apple's Screen Time guide sets Time Allowances by app category: open Settings, then Screen Time, then Time Allowances; tap Manage Categories to view a category's apps or add a category, then set the category's allowance. Apps in a category can be used until they reach its allowance or the daily total, and a Screen Time Schedule sets when during the day each category is available. For more, see how to block gambling apps on an iPhone.

On Android phones that include Digital Wellbeing, Google's Digital Wellbeing guide explains app timers: open Settings, then Digital Wellbeing, then App timers, and set a timer next to the app. App timers reset at midnight.

GuardianBlock runs on eligible Windows 11 PCs and does not cover phones.

What turning it off does not cover

  • Other prediction-market platforms. Self-exclusion covers your Robinhood account; Kalshi and Polymarket have their own account tools, covered in how to block Kalshi and Polymarket.
  • Other Robinhood products. Robinhood describes self-exclusion as an opt-out from event-contract trading, and it moves your event-contract balance to your brokerage account.
  • Other devices and accounts. A phone limit or a computer block works on the device where you set it, and a request to Robinhood covers your Robinhood account.
  • Permanence. Self-exclusion is a firmer restriction than the sports setting but not a permanent ban: Robinhood keeps any change to it behind a support review.
  • Results. Each option changes what your account or device shows and allows; none of them promises how things turn out.

Quick answers

Does hiding sports prediction markets stop trading? No. Robinhood's help page says you can still trade sports event contracts regardless of the setting. Self-exclusion removes trading.

What happens to my open positions? Robinhood needs them closed before your event-contract account can be fully disabled, and the balance moves to your brokerage account after settlement. The sports setting leaves them open.

Do I have to close my Robinhood account? No. Self-exclusion covers event contracts. Closing the whole account is a separate step under Settings, then Deactivate an account. Robinhood's deactivation page requires no open positions and a $0 balance, among other requirements, and says most requests are processed within 1–2 weeks.

Can I trade Robinhood prediction markets on the website? No. Robinhood says they can be viewed on the web but traded only in the mobile app.
